Why write about girls and STEM

I am a teacher educator, researcher and writer, but far more important than any of this, I am first and foremost a mother. A concerned, inspired, dedicated and the happiest of mothers!

For my daughter, for her daughters, for all the teachers around the world who are teaching and will be teaching future generations of girls, and for myself, ever a student of learning, I am keeping this blog about everything I can find related to supporting, encouraging, mentoring, accompanying and inspiring girls to engage with maths, science and technology (STEM). In my heart of hearts, I  believe our world will be a very different world when girls around the world have access to and engage in the worlds of math, science and technology.

As I write this first entry, my daughter is working on her applications to start university next September. She is 17 years old. For the first 17+  years of her life, we have  pursued experiences to engage, inspire and provide her with as many opportunities as possible to experience the mysterious and wonderful worlds of math, science and technology. Why was and is this important to me?  More than anything, for her to see how magnificent the world that we live in really is!  From this starting point, to move on to celebrate and be grateful for all that we have been given; to be curious to better understand what we have been blesssed with and finally, to be ever mindful of our personal and professional responsibility as global citizens to take care of, protect and share our knowledge and resources to make this a better, more peaceful and more prosperous world for all.
